Lot 5 S101 — Robert F. Kennedy (1-12-79)

The hand painted cachet is an excellent portrait likeness of Bobby Kennedy. It you're old enough to remember, viewing the cover will instantly take you back in time. This Collins is a philatelic treasure, A plate single has the official first day cancel. I then went to the Senate Office Building where they have their own post office (DC Branch 22). Here I got an additional single postmarked to commemorate Robert Kennedy's time as a U.S. Senator. While at the Senate Post Office, they applied a large, beautiful magenta "U.S. Capitol" rubber stamp pictorial cachet showing the Capitol dome. It really makes this early Collins something special as it has both the lovely U.S. Senate cachet as well as my hand painted cachet AND the two first day postmarks.
