Jean Baptiste Pointe du Sable - Pioneer Trader, Founder of Chicago

Collins Cover Announcement

JEAN BAPTISTE POINTE DU SABLE

The first thing you will experience as you examine this cover is the sweeping vista from atop the grassy knoll where DuSable and his Indian princess bride survey the surrounding countryside and their holdings. A small band of four Indian braves accompanies them. To the east lies the shore of one of the Great Lakes -- Lake Michigan.

From the lake a river flows through planted fields that Jean Baptiste has brought under cultivation. In the distance, the modest buildings of his trading post form the wilderness settlement that is destined to become the great city of Chicago. A single of the issue has a Chicago First Day cancellation.

If you enjoy "entire" hand-painted cachets, you will most assuredly like this one -- as you join a bold couple on a wind swept hill overlooking the future. Item #D1201. $7.00
