Great Americans

Dr. Harvey Cushing - Neurosurgeon, Pathologist, Pioneer of Brain Surgery

Collins Cover Announcement

DR. HARVEY CUSHING

45-cent Great American Series

It is a pleasure to offer this fine First Day Cover produced in the tradition of COLLINS. Dr. Cushing was an American surgeon and author who laid the foundation for brain surgery and neurosurgery. He also was one of the first American doctors to routinely use X-rays and to take blood pressure readings of his patients. The hand-painted cachet has an excellent rendition of the doctor in a setting which contains the various medical innovations which he helped to pioneer. The cachet is probably the "best of issue" of all produced.

The stamps were obtained in Cleveland on Day of Issue, affixed to the covers, and then canceled in the small Ohio town of Harveysburg. This fine related cancel, obtained on actual Day of Issue, will ensure that this will be a sought-after item in the Great American Series. An FDC worth owning. Item #C1401. $7.50
