Wheel Chair 1920s

Collins Cover Announcement

WHEELCHAIR

8.4-cent Transportation Series

This is a rather unusual format combining stamps and cachet reminiscent of my previous Tricycle cover.

It's the 1920's, and a mother is welcoming her son home from the hospital. She is kneeling and the boy, in leg cast, has risen from his period wheelchair (wicker and metal) and on crutches is making his way to her outstretched arms. A cocker spaniel sits close by, happy at the return of his young master. Period items like a claw-foot chair and tiffany style light convey a timeframe to the viewer.

A pair of the 8.4-cent stamps is in upper right corner with a Tucson, Arizona bullseye cancel. A third stamp is in the lower right corner. On this stamp, the bullseye is so positioned that it becomes the inner part of the wheel of the wheelchair in the cachet. This is similar to the bullseye becoming the front wheel on my previous Tricycle cover. Something a little different, a little unusual. Item #N1401. $7.25
