Bicentennial - Bill of Rights

Collins Cover Announcement

THE BILL OF RIGHTS

This stamp was issued in Philadelphia and after picking up a supply on First Day, it was back across the Delaware River to Jersey. Before long I was at my unofficial destination of the town of "Liberty Corner". And, that is what my hand-painted cachet shows. A street corner with the democratic process in motion -- the twin rights of Freedom of Assembly and Freedom of Expression in action.

A politician is giving a press conference and he is being besieged by reporters and citizens. A t.v. camera is recording the event. Still photographers snap their pictures. Interviewers thrust Microphones forward. Citizens seem to be expressing their views. It is a whirl of activity that takes place day after day and is considered "commonplace" and "the norm" but in actuality is the cornerstone of the right to know and the right to be heard. The Freedom of Expression, exercised on "liberty corners" throughout the nation.

A nice FDC with a crisp and clear unofficial postmark. Item #K1601. $8.25.
