Summer 2023 Mail Sale
Summer 2023 Mail Sale Commentary
Lot 27 G1401 — 1988 Federal Duck Stamp — Snow Goose — 7-1-88
This cover really has a lot going for it. The first day postmark is a pictorial and cancels the duck stamp plus the two stamps added for the postal requirement — two jays and a folk-art decoy. A light blue envelope was used so that the white snow geese would stand out. The hand painted cachet shows a small flock of five birds. As with all of my duck covers, this one was only produced for collectors who pre-ordered, making it an immediate sell out. An opportunity.
Lot 29 C1602h — Federal Duck Lesser Scaup — Bobcat variety — 6-30-89
This is one of the most intriguing and desirable lots in the entire sale If you are missing this cachet variety in your collection, now is one of the few opportunities you will ever have to acquire it. The bottom line is that only 70 exist with the Bobcat cachet. (C1602h). If you are a duck cover enthusiast, or if you like to seek out the scarcer Collins covers, this one is for you. Since so few covers were produced for each wildlife species, I look for these items to always maintain their value and also to become more difficult to find. If you need the Bobcat, this is a seldom-seen opportunity. I did have a numbering error on three of these covers in previous sales, and the correct numbers are Gray Squirrel C1602c, Chipmunk C1602d, and Black Bear C1602e.
