Collins Cover Announcement
WORLD STAMP EXPO
In 1869 the United States produced a ninety-cent Abraham Lincoln stamp. This twenty-five cent commemorative reproduces the 1869 issue as well as announces the World Stamp Expo to be held from November 17 to December 3 in Washington, D.C. The stamp was issued in New York City on March 16th.
The hand-painted cachet depicts President Lincoln during his famous and moving Gettysburg Address. You will enjoy the detail and coloring of this cachet. Two stamps and two balanced cancels appear on the cover. A single has the official New York City "First Day of Issue" postmark. An additional single has the Smithsonian Station pictorial cancel from Washington, D.C. This pictorial features a cabin symbolic of the primitive one in which Lincoln was born. I also think it is important to note that the World Stamp Expo will be held in D.C., and I thought it was appropriate that this introductory stamp be canceled there on First Day. The result is an excellent unofficial Smithsonian cancel (as well as official New York City postmark) and a distinguished hand-painted Lincoln cachet. Item #Q1501 - $8.00
