J. Danforth Quayle - Inaugural

Vice President

Collins Cover Announcement

INAUGURATION COVERS

I still have a few of the January 20, 1989 Inaugural covers available. If you missed the ordering deadline, or, if you would like an extra cover to put away, this is a second chance. All orders are subject to supply.

In our entire history as a nation, only forty different men have been President. It is the very low number of opportunities for Inaugural covers and the long periods of time between Inaugurations that make these covers such collectibles.

(In fact, since I started producing COLLINS First Day Covers way back in March of 1978, I've only had two other opportunities -- in 1981 and 1985.

So...the message is clear that Inaugurals in general and COLLINS Inaugurals in particular are very uncommon, and this will be your last shot to get one until 1993. Do consider it.

President George W. Bush

The hand-painted cachet has a large portrait of President Bush and captures the man exactly as he is. This will be a cover that you truly will enjoy. Also shown are emblems of positions previously held -- House of Representatives, Central Intelligence Agency, United Nations and, of course, Vice President. The cover is franked by two stamps -- the twenty-two cent Liberty

and the six-cent Maine Statehood (1391). The cover has the fine pictorial Inaugural cancellation from Kennebunkport, Maine where President Bush maintains a home. Item #K1501. $18.00

Vice President J. Danforth Quayle

This year I decided to do a Vice President Inaugural cover for two reasons -- a majority of cachetmakers do not do Vice Presidents and, therefore, it is an opportunity to produce for collectors a less plentiful item. Also, as stated above, opportunities to do any Inaugurals at all are few and far between, and I did not want to let this added chance to produce a COLLINS Inaugural get away. It's just too darn long in between.

The hand-painted cachet is a large portrait of this strikingly handsome but somewhat controversial politician. Not knowing what the future holds for Mr. Quayle is an additional reason for acquiring it for your collection. The fact that it is a COLLINS inaugural and the first COLLINS Vice Presidential cover is more than enough for your serious consideration. The cover is franked by two stamps -- the twenty-two cent Liberty (2224) and the five-cent Indiana Statehood (1308). The Quayle cover has the pictorial cancellation from Huntington, Indiana which is the Vice President's hometown. Item #L1501. $18.00
