Lot 16 V1501 — Bicentennial — Executive Branch (Valley Forge Cachet) — (4-16-89)

For this George Washington issue celebrating the bicentennial of our Executive Branch of government, I added the 1977 Washington at Valley Forge stamp. which shows him in prayer. My hand painted cachet depicts a freezing winter night over two hundred forty years ago as Washington commanded the Continental troops. Snow swirls and winds whip while soldiers huddle around a meager cooking fire as the general confers nearby with one of his officers. A lone sentry stands guard by a cannon in the distance as a pale moon casts a faint light over the encampment. An oval of our first president is at lower right. The Mount Vernon first day of issue slogan cancel ties both stamps to the envelope. A fine Collins combo cover
