WETLANDS WILDLIFE

Two mallard ducks take flight from a wetlands marsh. A big catfish lurks in the shallow water beneath a bed of waterlilies. Near a half-submerged log a great blue heron wades in search of its next meal. A grove of cypress trees is prominent in the background. This wildlife habitat scene is the COLLINS watercolored cachet on the America the Beautiful Wetlands card. It joins the "Desert Wildlife" previously offered with mountains, seashore and woodlands yet up-coming in the weeks ahead. (The "desert" Item #11501, is still available at $8.00). This set of five is a beautiful mini-series and I urge you not to miss obtaining them.

The official city was Waycross, Georgia. After picking them up on issue date, they were taken to Lake Park, Georgia for a crisp unofficial First Day postmark. The stamp features a white egret framed by the green water of a cypress swamp.

Although the two mallards are just part of the wetlands cachet, many collectors like any "duck related" items. This handpainted wildlife FDC, along with desert, mountains, seashore and woodlands, will be a sought after collectible in the years ahead. Item #R1501 - $8.00.
