Organized Labor

American Bald Eagle

Fred Collins Signature

Collins Cover Announcement

ORGANIZED LABOR

This cover presented a challenge as the issue date was Labor Day, and most post offices were closed. After some research, I decided on the pictorial cancel at the BALPEX Show. It shows a Chesapeake Bay steamer and with its maritime/commercial uses (transporting goods and passengers), it ties in nicely with labor theme of stamp. The hand painted cachet shows a couple of workers on the job.

Item #A301 - Washington, D.C. "First Day of Issue" hand cancel on single. Baltimore, MD pictorial unofficial cancel on additional single. $4.95

Lot 9 A301 — Organized Labor — Eagle Stamp — 9-1-80

This stamp was issued in Washington, D.C., and a single has the first day of issue cancel from there. An additional single has a pictorial postmark showing a Chesapeake Bay steamer from Baltimore. Organized labor has always been instrumental in moving goods at our various ports.

My hand painted cachet shows a welder and a machine operator. The stamp features an awesome bald eagle. An early Collins.
