Three of the windmill stamps are hand canceled "First Day of Issue" in Lubbock, the official city. The other two windmill stamps are hand canceled in Holland, Texas, a very appropriate unofficial for this subject. Holland was quite a distance from Lubbock and a small chartered ) plane was necessary to meet time requirements. The Holland cancel is great - large and clear with killer bars. The two cancels and scenic water-colored cachet combine to make this one of the finest COLLINS covers offered to date. Item Q201. $6.95

Spring 2022 Mail Sale Commentary

Lot 6 Q201 — Windmills (2-7-80)

The five stamps feature historic windmills from the 1700s and 1800s., Three are postmarked at Lubbock, Texas, and the other two have a first day cancel with killer bars from Holland, Texas.

This is a Collins exclusive, and what better city for a "windmill" first day postmark than Holland! The hand painted cachet shows a large windmill in realistic colors with emerald green grass and brilliant blue clouds. Considering the entire appearance of stamps, postmarks, and cachet, this is a truly a lovely Collins.
