W.E.B. DuBois 


As a Black leader, DuBois founded the Niagara Movement in 1905. Within five years, this organization evolved into the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He served for 22 years as the editor of "Crisis" which was the organiztion'a periodical. Scholar and writer, W.E.B. DuBois was an important historic figure in the evolution of American society and this issue pays tribute to this early Black leader.


The "entire" COLLINS hand-painted cachet displays a large portrait of a mature DuBois and also shows him as a young man. In addition, the June 1920 cover of "Crisis" is pictured as he edited this publication from 1910 to 1932. Colors of paints chosen for this cachet coordinate closely with the colors used for the stamp itself. The First Day of Issue cancellation is from Atlanta, Georgia. Item #B2001. $10.00.
