Voyages of Columbus
Coming Ashore
Collins Cover Announcement
FIRST VOYAGE OF CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS
The Landing
Four Indians gather on the rocks at water's edge and gaze in wonder as a long boat nears shore. In the boat, crew members man the oars as Columbus stands in the bow about to set foot in the New World. Visible in the background along the coast are the expedition's ships with the Santa Maria being the closest. This hand-painted cachet is very attractive and eye-catching as green, lush vegetation and bright blue Caribbean water serve as colorful backdrops for this historic moment. Each group eyes the other with wary caution, and I believe that the dramatic overtones of the event have been captured on this COLLINS. It joins the three previous covers offered -- The Inspiration, the Fleet and The Arrival -- to complete this set of four which documents the First Voyage of Columbus. The new stamp is canceled with a Christiansted, Virgin Islands First Day bullseye postmark.
1992 was a monumental year in recalling the brave exploits of Columbus for it marked the 500th Anniversary of his discovery and voyage. This is the final cover which I will be offering to commemorate his extraordinary feat which shaped the history of mankind. Collectors will always be intrigued by the saga of Columbus and many future cover collectors will seek to discover and add this COLLINS set to their collections. Make sure you own this FDC and the three previously offered before they sell out of my stock. The Old World meeting the New. Five centuries ago. The Landing. Item #G2004. $10.50.
Also still available in limited numbers are the other three covers in this set at $10.50 each.
