ALASKA HIGHWAY
Bull Moose Cachet
U.S. stamps provide an on-going chronicle of the American experience. People. History. Events. Institutions. Flora and fauna. Just about a sampling of everything in our national heritage. The subject of this stamp -- The Alaska Highway -sounds simple enough but it evoked in me many directions in which to travel toward my hand-painted cachet. First, there is the romanticism of our 49th state and the implied adventures that await there. There was the engineering and building feat of constructing a passable road through the formidable Alaskan terrain. There was the absolute beauty of nature in its wildest state. Here is the resulting cover and it's a true beauty.
In the background, rugged mountain peaks rise to the heavens. From them, the Alaskan Highway snakes to the foreground. Taking center stage in this FDC is a magnificent bull moose. This powerfully built animal contrasts with the delicate, multi-colored wildflowers that abound in the roadside meadow. Likewise, the tiny but beautiful flowers contrast with the equally beautiful but massive mountains in the background.
Please note from an artistic stand-point how the lovely hand painting in this cover blends so perfectly with the coloring shades of the stamp. This is a wonderful wildlife/nature COLLINS Cover and I recommend it highly for your collection. Item #K2001. $10.25.

Lot 20 K2001 — Alaskan Highway — Bull Moose cachet — 5/30/92
This is an awesome wildlife cachet as it features a large, full-bodied bull moose. Multi-colored wildflowers bloom at his feet. It is a good example of how hand painting allows color blending to achieve maximum coordination with those in the stamp. Sold out for a long time, I think this cover is being offered for the first time in one of my mail sales.
