BROAD-BILLED HUMMINGBIRD

Two individuals of this fragile and iridescent species of hummingbird dart about a crimson flower. One is after the nectar with his long bill and the other is flying right at you. These miniature birds have brilliant green and blue bodies and I've tried to capture their beauty in my hand-painted cachet.

In addition to the Broad-Billed stamp, this cover also has the Costa's Hummingbird stamp affixed. Both are canceled with the Washington, D.C. First Day postmark.

After doing the research for this issue, I really took an interest in these tiny and delicate creatures. As a result, I received a gift of a hummingbird feeder from my family, and I'm sure it will provide years of pleasure as it is visited by these intriguing birds.
