Lot 15 L801 — American Widgeon — 1984 "Duck" — 7-2-84

This was only the fourth Collins Federal Migratory Bird Stamp cover produced. Small temporary pools and ponds on the prairie provide resting spots for this species, and my hand painted cachet shows five widgeons as they pause in their migration. In the distance, a large Flying-V of geese pass overhead. The "duck" stamp is the 50th Anniversary issue as the first one came out in 1934.

The beautiful "Preserving Wetlands" stamp is used to meet the postage requirements. The pair of mallards landing design on the stamp is the same one used on that Federal Migratory Bird Stamp in 1934. The clincher on this one is that it is a Double First Day Of Issue Cover because both the widgeon and preserving wetlands stamps were issued on July 2, 1984. A fine duck collectible.
