Collins Cover Announcement

DOGS

This is the single cover that has all four of the Dog stamps. It is independent of the T802 set and does not go with it but rather is an individual FDC that effectively displays the four different stamps. And...the stamp arrangement is the first thing one notices. There is one in each of the four corners. The two on the left are tied by the official New York City cancel. The two on the right are tied by the unofficial "kennel worth" (Kenilworth) cancel.

Taking up the center is the hand-painted cachet, and it is quite different. A distinctive black and white Boston terrier is shown set against a background of geometric shapes done in bright colors. Underneath, the lettering "Boston Terrier" has been hand tinted in alternating colors which give the FDC an added spark.

The Dog issue was a very popular one, and this T801 will join my T802 set in becoming among those covers most sought after. Acquire one now -- all four stamps, both official and unofficial cancels, and a most unusual hand-painted cachet showing the black and white terrier against the vivid and bright multi-colored background. You'll enjoy it. Item #T801 - $8.50

Lot 6 T801 to T805 — Dogs — Set of five covers (two are complementary)

I turned these four large, detailed and attractive dog stamps into a wonderful "Early Collins" miniset. There are two breeds of dogs on each stamp. And each stamp is used on a cachet with a dog 'scene. On the first cover (T801), I placed one of each of the stamps in the four corners of the cover. They surround an eye-catching hand-painted Boston Terrier. (T802) Across a snowblanketed meadow, a long-eared hare sprints over the winter stillness. Close upon the rabbit's trail is a pursuing Beagle intent on its quarry. (T803) In Autumn, a magnificent Chesapeake Bay Retriever waits in eager anticipation. Three geese wing skyward over the water, and overlooking it all is a poised and dominant Retriever waiting for the command to spring into action. (T804) In contrast to the harsh winter season, the next cachet captures a summer scene of rural America. A flock of sheep is making its way down a grassy hillside to a pathway below. The wooly creatures are meandering along. Some are grazing and a lamb is even trying to nurse at its mother's side. It's a pretty pastoral picture. An alert Collie watches over the flock and helps to herd the sheep to their destination. (T805) The lush green of late spring highlights the final action-packed cachet. A stone wall spans an emerald field, and over the wall and across the field a hunt is underway. Foxhounds are full of excitement and energy as they give chase.
