VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL
As an early tent resident of Da Nang (1962), I wanted to do a fitting and appropriate cachet for this solemn issue. Finally, I decided to take the statue of the three servicemen (White, Black, Hispanic) that was unveiled and bring it to life. And that is what I did. The three symbolic troopers on my cover are now in full color field uniforms and representative of all those who served there. To achieve a jungle background effect, a sponge applicator method was used and it resulted in an unusual and distinctive appearance.
A vertical use of the envelope is employed to capture a straight and narrow cachet design, and I think you'll enjoy it. The overly long horizontal stamp is at the top and is canceled at Washington, D.C. by "First Day of Issue" cancel. Then comes the hand-painted cachet of the three servicemen. Finally, at the bottom, is the bold text. I'm pleased with this cover because of the final execution and appearance. It's not flashy but rather it takes the actual Veterans' Memorial statue and brings it to life via natural, hand-painted colors. Item #B901 - $6.00

Lot 17 B901 — Vietnam Veterans Memorial — 11/10/84
This stamp and cover pay tribute to those who did not return. It serves as a reminder of them and of the veterans who came home. The hand painted cachet is done in a vertical format and is based on the monument in Washington, D.C. In the jungles and rice paddies, servicemen became comrades. Comrades became buddies. Buddies became brothers. This one is for all of the brothers.
