Kansas Statehood

150th Anniversary

Collins Cover Announcement

Kansas  - 1861 to 2011

150th Anniversary of Statehood

This new Collins is a knockout, and I'm very anxious for all of my collectors to see it first hand. I decided to do a collage of Kansas symbols and, after much consideration, decided on the state flower, state bird, state animal, and state reptile. The resulting hand watercolored cachet is really something special as the colors of all the elements work together perfectly. In the center is the majestic American buffalo, and this denizen of the western plains anchors the cachet. The text is above and below him, and to his left and right are the other components of the artwork.

A meadowlark perches on a fence post and sings its prairie song. Behind this beautiful songbird, golden sunflowers beam their special brand of sunshine. On the other side of the envelope, a distinctive box turtle with its intricately designed shell seems intrigued by a leaf from another pair of sunflowers. And, not to be forgotten is the colorful new stamp. Against a blue Kansas sky, it shows the familiar old-style windmill and the new era energy windmills of today.

This cover has much visual impact, and the colors and subject matter are great. I'm pleased to announce Kansas Statehood. Collins #H4801 at $14.00.
