Ronald Reagan

Jelly Bean Candy

Subscriber Only Edition

Collins Cover Announcement

Ronald Reagan

Limited-Edition cachet — the "Jelly Bean" Variety

Centennial of Birth — 1911 to 2011

As a young man, Ronald Reagan was a Hollywood actor who appeared in more than fifty films. The Collins cover recently offered for this new stamp commemorated that period of his life as it portrayed him playing Notre Dame football player George Gipp. Since I've previously done a couple of cachets depicting Ronald Reagan in his presidential years, I decided to do this cover for his early middle age about the time he was the spokesman/announcer for the G.E. Theatre during the early age of television.

Wanting to add a White House component to the cachet, I remembered that he was known to always offer visitors to the Oval Office some presidential jelly beans — his favorite candy. The jar on this cover will certainly add to the wonderful reputation that my cachets enjoy for detailed hand painting. Each jelly bean on each and every cover is individually hand watercolored!

Ronald Reagan is credited with growing the conservative movement in American politics. His goals were a smaller, less-expensive central government with greater emphasis on states and individual rights. Whether you agree with his political philosophy or not, he certainly earned his presidential nickname — the Great Communicator. He worked in various fields of communication his whole life from actor to TV spokesman to politics. I'm pleased to offer this sugar-coated philatelic look at our 40th president Ronald Reagan and his Oval Office jelly beans. Collins #I4802 at $14.00
