Latin Music Legends

Carlos Gardel

Carlos was the most celebrated tango artist of all time. His singing style was so captivating he was known as "the man with the tear in his voice." Born in France but raised in Argentina from age 2, this great performer became a legend by popularizing the tango in the U.S., Europe, and Latin America.

My individually watercolored cachet shows Gardel with his guitar. I must take this opportunity to say that all five of my covers for this musical series turned out superb with a wonderful and vibrant use of passionate colors that capture the Latin spirit. If you don't yet have them all, do consider adding them to your collection. I believe that they will be judged to be the best of any cachets produced for this five-stamp issue.

Gardel died in a plane crash at the height of his career in 1935. For many, the voice of Carlos Gardel captured the soul of the tango style and his untimely death macle him a tragic hero to his many fans throughout the world. Through the years he has become known as "The King of Tango." I'm pleased to offer this fifth and fmal cover in my Latin Music Legends set. The man with the tear in his voice. Carlos Gardel.
