Jack Frost
Holiday Baubles
This Christmas set gave me an excellent opportunity to bring together in one mini-set four fictional characters who have brought so much light-hearted pleasure to the yuletide season.
First to make an appearance is Jack Frost — a character with origins from the-time of the Vikings in whose folklore was known as Jokul Frosti which translated to "Icicle Frost." From this Scandinavian beginning, the young man evolved as Jack Frost in Britain and the United States. Today the artistic young man first appears when the weather turns cooler to paint the foliage in the autumn colors of red, yellow, purple, gold, and orange. As the frosty temperatures get colder, he begins to "nip" ones fingers, toes, and nose. Finally, as the deepfreeze of winter really settles in, Jack often leaves icy, fern-like patterns on early morning windows.
You will love the whimsical hand painted cachet that begins a really terrific holiday set of four. A curious cat sits snugly on a warm window sill as outside Jack Frost performs his wintry visual magic as he transforms the exterior panes to a Christmas masterpiece. I think this delightful cachet and, indeed, the three that will follow, will become holiday gems eagerly sought by future First Day Cover collectors.
With brush in hand, "Icicle Frost" as he was known to the Vikings, goes about his cold-weather work with a pallet of winter colors. I look forward to having you experience this individually watercolored cachet first hand. I'm pleased to present the lad who paints the colorful leaves of autumn, the elf-like character who will nip the extremities in the freezing air, and the creative artist who will leave your winter windows with splendid icy patterns of crystal swirls. Jack Frost is now ready. Collins #R4901 at $14.00.
