Dogs at Work

Search and Rescue

A German shepherd has climbed to a high rocky ledge in a mountainous forest on a mission of search and rescue. Various senses come into play as pointed alert ears try to pick up helpful sounds; sharp eyes scan the terrain for tell-tale movement; and, most importantly, an acute sense of smell will hopefully pick up the targeted scent. This is the first of four hand painted service dogs, and the magnificent shepherd in a high mountain setting is a fine start to this series.

Still to come will be the military, therapy, and guide dogs, and each will join this search and rescue dog cachet in paying tribute to the extremely important roles that these animals play in providing vital services to humans. The fact that the stamps are sixty-five cents each will add to their desirability, but the main attributes are that "dogs" are a very popular topic to collect, and hand painted Collins cachets will be sought out by present and future collectors.

Search dogs are invaluable in helping to rescue those who are lost, especially children. They aid authorities in the pursuit of fugitives. The alert German shepherd high in the remote mountains is now ready. Collins #A5004 at $14.50.
