Birds of Prey

Peregrine Falcon

Collins Cover Announcement

Birds of Prey

High-Value eighty-five cent Stamps

Peregrine Falcon

This attractive bird, also known in earlier times as the "duck hawk," has adapted to live almost anywhere, even in cities. In fact, the peregrine falcon is the world's most widespread raptor. The handsome feather coloration of adults is blue-gray with a lighter barred or spotted chest area. Black head markings give many adults the appearance of having "sideburns" or a "moustache."

With the exception of New Zealand, it can be found anywhere on earth other than extreme polar regions, very high mountains, or most tropical rain forests. Its diet consists of birds plus small mammals and reptiles. It mates for life and nests on cliff edges or tall structures such as buildings and bridges.

My individually hand painted cachet shows a mature bird perched on a high rock outcropping watching for potential prey. This series is proving to be very popular, and I urge you to order in a prompt manner. The vertical format of my watercolored cachets for this stamp series will make them among the most sought-after wildlife First Day Covers for the entire year. My "duck hawk," currently known as the peregrine falcon, is now ready. Collins #B5002 at $14.50. Birds

Lot 28 B5002 — Birds of Prey — Peregrine Falcon — 1/20/12

The Birds of Prey stamps were issued in January of 2012. They were instant hits with my collectors and flew out of stock almost immediately. Watch their value and collectability soar. A year ago, my Northern Grosbeak (B5001) brought $157, and only six months later Northern Harrier (B5005) realized $247. The Peregrine Falcon is a crow-sized hawk that dives at 200 miles per hour, making it the world's fastest bird and, in fact, the fastest member of the animal kingdom. This bird of prey is a great example of urban wildlife taking advantage of tall buildings to nest and hunt. My individually hand painted cachet shows this self-assured bird perched on a high outcropping ledge searching for prey. It is a stellar cachet and will be a prize in your collection.
