William Tecumseh Sherman

General William Sherman served in the Civil War under Ulysses S. Grant during, the 1862 and 1863 campaigns in Mississippi and Tennessee. In 1864 Sherman captured Atlanta and in 1865 accepted the surrender of all Confederate forces in the Carolinas. Georgia, and Florida. After Grant was elected President. William Sherman was named Commanding General of the Army and so served from 1869 to 1883. I am pleased to present this hand painted cachet in my "Civil War Generals" series.
