Weather Vanes
Old MacDonald's Farm
Horse and Dog
During the trip to Vermont when we visited the state's raptor rehab facility, a stop at Shelburne Village proved to be both educational and enjoyable. This museum village has buildings and artifacts from the 1800s, and it's like stepping back in time. From the general store to the blacksmith shop, to the oneroom school, to the early Vermont settler's cabin, the many authentic attractions are like a time capsule of early Arnerkail life. Arid eâch-a-thé five- actual weather vanes on this set of stamps is displayed there. Not surprisingly, the first day of issue bullseye postmark is Shelburne, Vermont.
Walking through the early barns on the perimeter of the village, I decided that these weather vane stamps were perfectly themed to present the typical animals found on an early American farm. Ten types of animals will be the subjects of my individually hand painted Old MacDonald's Farm set of five weather vane First Day Covers. To start off this truly Americana series, I feature the reliable work horse enjoying a visit from the family dog. Both are realistically portrayed in natural colors, and when complete, this watercolored set of five will certainly be actively sought by future Collins collectors and Ameriana topicalists. "Down on the farm" is as American as apple pie, so be sure to obtain these covers before they sell out.
The small black weather vane, topped by a trotting horse, will appear as part of each cachet, and each of the five covers will have two farm animals. The horse and dog cover is now ready. Collins #Y4904 at $14.00.
