Major League Baseball All-Stars

Willie Stargell

Collins Cover Announcement

Baseball All-Stars

Willie Stargell

Stargell was one of the most powerful hitters to ever play the game. To intimidate opposing players, he would warm up in the on-deck circle by swinging a sledgehammer. Willie spent his entire twenty-one year career with the Pittsburgh Pirates playing either left field or first base. Because younger players looked up to him for leadership and advice and because his coaches valued his experience and work ethic, he soon earned the

nickname 'Tops."

During his career he had 2,232 hits including 475 home runs and 423 doubles In his twenty-one years he hit more homers entirely out of ball parks than any other player which demonstrated his awesome strength. His RBI total (runs batted in) was 1,540 when he retired. Stargell led the Pirates to six Division titles, two National League pennants, and two World Series Championships in 1971 and 1979. He was a Major League All-Star seven times. and in 1988 was elected to Baseball's Hall of Fame.

Wilver Domell Stargell was quite a player, and his feared hitting ability reminds me of the title character in the classic baseball poem "Mighty Casey at Bat." He remains the only player ever to win the Most Valuable Player Award for the season, League Championship Series, and World Series all in one year which he did in 1979. Now ready is my individually hand painted cachet for the power hitting All-Star Willie Stargell. For Pops. Collins #Z5003 at $14.00.
