 Kaleidoscope Fantasies

Leprechaun

This uplifting cover is the second in my Kaleidoscope Fantasies set of four and joins the previously announced Mermaid in her Water Lily Pool. Legend has it that Leprechauns spend most of their time making shoes, and this individually hand painted cachet shows one doing so in an ancient oak. Nearby, his Pot of Gold coins rests safely in a hollow of the massive trunk. No doubt, this old oak would often be at the end of a rainbow.

The earliest reference to this Irish folklore creature is in the Medieval tale "Adventure of Fergus." In the story King_ Fergus of Ulster captures three Leprechauns who grant him three wishes for their release. To this day it is said that if one is caught he will gant three wishes for his freedom.

Leprechauns are solitary in nature and enjoy practical jokes and mischief.  At the same time, they are hard workers in their trade of making and Mending shoes. The watercolors used in this cachet coordi nate nicely with the Kaleidoscope stamp, and this delightful Irish First Day Cover will be a wonderful addition to your collection. My Oak Tree Leprechaun and his Pot of Gold cover is now ready. Collins #L5101 at $14.00.
