This American artist was best known for his photography, but he considered himself a painter above all. He was born Emmanuel Radnitzky on August 27, 1890 but shortened his name to Man Ray. Ray spent most of his career in France where he produced major works in a variety of media. During his lifetime, he became a famous fashion and portrait photographer.
