Alexander Hamilton

Collins Cover Announcement

Patriotic Star

Alexander Hamilton

When the War of Independence broke out, Alexander Hamilton volunteered and soon was a captain in the New York Artillery. He was invited to join General Washington's staff and at age 20 quickly became his most trusted aide. When the Continental Army was ready to cross the Delaware to attack the British and Hessians in Trenton, Hamilton was by Washington's side in the sleet and freezing rain.

Once across the river, about a dozen young officers in their teens and twenties, including Hamilton and James Monroe, let out a spontaneous yell of enthusiasm as they led their soldiers south to Trenton and a country's destiny. When the enemy was engaged, Hamilton cleared a path for the cannons under General Knox, and he and Monroe scattered the Hessians. Washington at the head of the column then poured into Trenton and, after an intense battle, victory was at hand.

My individually hand painted cachet shows the young officer in uniform as well as George Washington rallying the troops. It also shows a map of Trenton and the Delaware River which the Army famously crossed on the fateful night, Finally, it hasa portrait of this important founding father who created the nation's  financial system and became the first Secretary of the Treasury.

The Patriotic Star stamp gave me the perfect opportunity to honor this American hero. During the war he rose to become George Washington's Chief of Staff. Alexander Hamilton is now ready. Collins #W5101 at $14.00.
