CABLE CAR 1880's

This issue of the on-going Transportation Series really resulted in a stunning First Day Cover.

A pair of the new 20-cent stamps has a marvelous large unofficial cancel from San Francisco. It is the same beauty that was used on my Jack London FDC. I really like this postmark and, of course, it meant a trip to California to obtain it.

The hand-painted cachet is something else. It incorporates the famous hills of San Francisco. At the crest of a cobblestone street, a full cable car is almost at the peak. The conductor is amused by two squirrels frolicking on an adjacent sidewalk. Period buildings line the street. In the distance is the panoramic vista of San Francisco Bay. A sailing ship cruises the serene, bright blue waters.

This is an excellent addition to your collection. A colorful San Francisco cable car hand-painted cachet. A super unofficial First Day cancel. Stamps of the popular Transportation Series. All together -- a quality FDC. COLLINS #E1501. $9.25.

Lot 29 E1501 — Cable Car 1880's

A magnificent San Francisco cachet shows one of the storied cable cars on the famous hilly streets of that unique city as it's about to descend to the historic waterfront. A phenomenal, large "SF, CA Main Office" day of issue bullseye ties a pair of the Transportation Series Stamps to the cover. Note cachet details such as brick-paved street, ornate iron fence to the left, and distant docks at water's edge.
