The hand-painted cachet for this COLLINS is one that took an extraordinary amount of time to paint on an individual basis. It is based on the famous painting of the engagement at Breed's Hill during the Battle for Boston. The red-coated British charge up the slope and have reached the American line. Bayonets and sabers are evident everywhere as the fighting is at close range. Flags flutter as the battle for independence is joined. This cachet was chosen in part due to the Colonial flag pictorial unofficial First Day postmark used on the cover. Also, Boxborough's proximity to Boston.

The stamp shows an American flag flying from atop a pole against a blue cloud-filled sky. The flag stamp, flag pictorial unofficial cancel, and the Revolutionary War cachet all combine to make this a wonderful FDC.
