Collins Cover Announcement
1900 s FIRE PUMPER
Transportation Series
This 20.5 cent issue joins the many other Transportation Series FDCs. A pair of the stamps is canceled at San Angelo, Texas with two official city bullseyes. (If new collectors would like a challenging project that is still possible but getting more difficult with the passing of time - how about attempting to complete a COLLINS collection of Transportation Series covers. It would start with the W301 Surrey.)
The glistening pumper is the pride and joy of the firehouse. It has been rolled out of the entrance. Several firemen attired in their outer coats and helmets cluster about. They are joined by that delightful and well known department mascot -- the lovable dalmation with his familiar black spots.
It is a bright spring day -- green grass, blue sky, and a red brick firehouse provide the setting for the new pumper. On the fire engine are the various pieces of equipment -- ladder, hose, and axe. Polished lights and bell contrast with the red of the pumper.
An excellent companion cover for this one if you can find it on the open market would be S401 -- the Horse Drawn Fire Pumper that is shown in a great action-packed, fire fighting cachet.
Just as trains are a subject of topical collecting, so too to a lesser degree, are fire engines. There will always be collectors seeking this type of FDC so I strongly suggest that you not miss adding it to your COLLINS collection. Item #V1401 - $7.00
