Twenty-five Cent Rose

This lovely COLLINS FDC is quite delicate in appearance when compared to most of my other covers. A large grouping of beautiful, large pink roses extends from upper left to lower center of the envelope. Upon looking at just this part of the cachet, imagine the time for hand painting the blooms and each individual tiny leaf. Mind-boggling. A smaller flower grouping graces the upper right hand corner and here the stamp is placed with the Pasadena, California Day of Issue cancel. Pasadena is, of course, home of the Rose Bowl parade and football game.

In the large center area, a traditional scene is portrayed. A grassy knoll under a clear blue sky. A spreading oak tree casts its shadow on the gentle slope. Under the branches a couple reclines enjoying the sunny day, beautiful setting, and each other's company. All of the above is enough to make this a fine collectible but now the "final touch" is added. In true watercolor technique, a pond is painted in freehand without any guidelines. You will enjoy how this natural expression of blue water brings the look of an actual watercolor work of art to this COLLINS. A refreshing glimpse at the rites of spring. Love and roses.
