1873 RAILROAD COAL CAR

13.2-cent Transportation Series

When a cover is completed and the finished item exceeds my expectations, I have a deep feeling of satisfaction. That is my sentiment about this Railroad FDC.

First, please consider the First Day cancel. The stamps were issued in Pittsburgh, PA. After acquiring them there, it was on to Coal Center, Pennsylvania for a terrific First Day cancel. The shape is slightly oval -a nice variation from the usual circle, and it ties two of the 13.2-cent stamps to the cover. Best of all, of course, is that your COLLINS Coal Car cover is postmarked on First Day of Issue in the town of "Coal Center".

In addition to the coal cancel that knowledgeable collectors will always appreciate, the hand-painted cachet is one I'm very proud to offer. The impressive 1800's locomotive has pulled its train into the depot. A loading chute is extended from one of the railroad buildings and coal is tumbling down and loading the coal car behind the picturesque engine. An ornate passenger car is attached and ready to receive the riders after the coal loading process is completed. Without a doubt, this cover with excellent cancel and superb handpainted cachet is one that could easily be judged as "best of issue" for this stamp. A MUST. Item #K1401 - $7.50.
