Classic Automobiles

1935 Duesenberg

Collins Cover Announcement

1935 DUESENBERG

CLASSIC CARS

Autumn leaves swirl in their dancing frenzy -- propelled into animation by the speeding red Duesenberg. This classic automobile is shown in dramatic fashion as it roars down a woodland road. The only spectators are a pair of bushy-tailed gray squirrels which momentarily pause in their acorn gathering chore to watch the awesome machine flash by. The backdrop is a fine example of watercolor art as the ruSset colored forrest provides an unusual and very attractive setting for this 1935 classic. The car itself is a wonderful tone of light cranberry red with canvas convertible top and really looks "boss" in this COLLINS cachet. The corresponding Duesenberg stamp is officially canceled Detroit, Michigan -- the Motor City.

This is the second cover I've offered in what will ultimately be a five-cover Classic Car set. The first was the 1931 Cord which is still available at $7.25. I would personally recommend that you not miss adding the Classic Cars to your COLLINS collection. They are true examples cf how cachet art can enliven and elevate the hobby of collecting FDCs. 1935 Duesenberg. Item #Q1402 - $7.25.

Spring 2022 Mail Sale Commentary

Lot 19 01405 — 1935 Duesenberg (8-25-88)

For automobile fans, this one is a gem. The stamp features the classic car coming forward from left to right. It is a rose red with canvas convertible top. The hand painted cachet shows a long, side profile of the Duesenberg as it starts to drive toward the horizon from left to right. The forest is thick and autumn russets have begun to replace the greens of summer. The stamp is tied to the envelope with a first day of issue small bullseye postmark from Detroit — the Motor City. I think this is the first time it has appeared in one of my mail sales.
